Locations
Dalmahoy is ~7 miles to the west of the city centre, near Heriot-Watt campus and Edinburgh Airport.
Edinburgh Airport (EDI) is  4 miles from Dalmahoy Hotel. Taxi takes 12 mins, cost ~£15-20.
Direct flights to/from >150 locations include London (all 5), Amsterdam, Paris, Warsaw, Doha, Dubai, Boston, Chicago and New York.
Journey time from Dalmahoy to HWU is 8 min.; to ROE and to city centre ~20 min.; and to Portobello Beach/promenade  ~30 min.
Transport
We recommend taking a taxi from the airport to Dalmahoy.
Buses to city centre (including Princes St Gardens and Waverley rail Station EDB).
Lothian buses X27/28 run directly from the main gate of Dalmahoy Hotel, every 20-30 minutes. Single fare £2; unlimited journeys on all city buses for one day per person are capped at  £4.80 using tapped card/device. From the gate, it is a short walk up the drive to the hotel and leisure club entrances.
Alternatively it is a short taxi ride to the HWU bus terminus from where buses 25, 34, 35 or 45 go to various city centre areas.
Transport will be provided during the Board meeting to HWU, ROE and to Calton Hill.
Accommodation
Fifteen rooms have been reserved at Dalmahoy Hotel (4 star grade) for three nights (arriving 27th departing 30th)  at the discounted rate of £195 per night for single occupancy of double classic rooms, including full Scottish breakfast, use of indoor pool and various leisure facilities on site, and all taxes. We strongly recommend booking these reserved rooms for the three nights. (For personal accounts).
These must be reserved and paid for by March 3rd. Please call +44-131-333-1845; choose Option 1 and quote “SALT Foundation “.
Reservations can be contacted 0131 333 1845 option 1 or reservations@dalmahoy.co.uk, they can then send a payment link for any guests who are unable to phone.

Up to 5 rooms will be on hold at Dalmahoy for the extra (Friday) night at the same reduced rate. Later bookings of bedrooms would be at the normal rates which will almost certainly be significantly higher. Alternatively these latter can of course be placed using the usual travel websites and apps. You can request various upgrades to superior rooms or suites, double occupancy of any rooms, or extra nights.

Also, if anyone wants double occupancy, that will be just 15 pounds extra per night
compared with single occupancy to cover the breakfasts etc. This applies to all our
reserved Dalmahoy rooms.
Personal account payments can be by bank transfer and other methods as well as
the default phone method already stated. More details of payment options to follow later.

There will also be another option for accommodation from Friday night onwards, for anyone staying on in the city at the weekend (details to follow later; will be lower cost simpler accommodation).

Dalmahoy hotel and country club has two restaurants, cocktail and sports bars and several comfortable lounges. It is set in 1000 acres of parkland with wooded walks, jogging and nature trails, two famous 18-hole golf courses, and leisure centre with indoor pool, gym and sauna.  A floor plan/guide of the building will be provided to attendees later.
Edinburgh has hundreds of other accommodation options at various distances from Dalmahoy. Those of an equivalent standard near the city centre will almost certainly be more expensive on the week of the meeting. For example the Courtyard by Marriott on HWU campus currently offers such rooms for ~£250 pn on those dates, whilst city centre hotels may typically be ~£300-500 pn. Dormitory beds in hostels may be as low as ~£50 pn. Driving within the city centre is strongly discouraged and not recommended, and taxis would be expensive, but buses are convenient and cheap if rather slow at peak times of day.
If you would like specific advice on any aspect of accommodation or transports, please contact Gordon Bromage by email.
