Board Meeting 55 – Travel and Accommodation Arrangements

We look forward to hosting SALT Board Meeting 55 at Dartmouth College, Hanover, New Hampshire (NH) on 22-23 May 2024.

SALT Hanover NH Map

Please read the travel and logistical information below:

1. Travel Information:  Participants traveling by air: The closest major airport  Boston Logan Airport (BOS) in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, and is the recommended airport.  From Boston, there are three options for travel to Hanover, NH.

a. Recommended: Travel to Hanover via the Dartmouth Coach (www.dartmouthcoach.com).  See the northbound (to Hanover) and southbound (back to Boston) schedules at: https://dartmouthcoach.com/route/upper-valley-to-boston-logan-airport/   Dartmouth is located in the “Upper Valley”. Hanover, NH is the last stop on the northbound route and the first stop on the southbound route.  Tickets are $40 one way and $70 round trip.  There are 11 departures daily each way with the last departure from Boston Logan Airport at 8:50pm (20:50) and from Hanover at 4:40pm (16:40).  The trip is approximately 3 hours.  Tickets should be purchased online, in advance, but a ticket can be used for a different date/time should there be travel changes.  The bus will drops off and picks up on the Dartmouth Green.  The Hanover Inn is directly opposite the bus stop on the other side of the Green  (see map).

International arrivals in Boston Logan airport are in terminal E but these directions apply to all terminals. Once you exit the secure area (customs for international), you will be in a ground floor arrivals area. Look for the orange signs that direct you to “scheduled bus” which in terminal E are to your right facing out of the terminal. Exit the appropriate door and look for signs above you near the curb. One will indicate the Dartmouth Coach along with several others. The bus will stop near the sign when it arrives. If you are early, feel free to wait inside until about 10 minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive. The bus stops at each terminal (A, B1, B2, C and E) so the actual arrival time of the bus will be later than the scheduled time, especially if you are in terminal E. The Dartmouth Coach is a white bus with a dark green stripes and the words “Dartmouth Coach” on the front and the sides (see the photo on their website). [Do not be concerned if a coach drives right by without picking up passengers as this is the coach dropping off passengers. This can be disconcerting but is normal.]. The correct bus should say Hanover on the front when it stops. When the bus stops the driver will scan your ticket. Having the ticket on your phone is fine. If you have luggage, make sure to tell them you are exiting the bus at Hanover (not New London or Lebanon). The bus makes three stops (New London, Lebanon and Hanover) with Hanover being the final stop. You will see the Hanover Inn straight across the Green (next to construction).

b. Fly from Boston Logan Airport (BOS) to Lebanon, NH (LEB) via Cape Air (capeair.com)  There are several flights per day but the planes are quite small (9 seats) and may sell out. Baggage is limited. Tickets can be as low as $79.  Attendees flying to Lebanon, please contact Kate Soule for possible transportation to Hanover from the airport.  It is about a 15-20 minute drive.  There are few taxis and there are car rentals at LEB.

c. Rent a car in Boston.  Boston is served by all major rental car companies.  Drive about 2.5 hours to Hanover, NH.  There is a toll on the route so ensure the rental company has provisions for this. This is a good option if a car is needed during the trip.

There is a regional airport in Manchester, NH, a 1.5 hour drive from Dartmouth.  If flying to Manchester, you will have to rent a ca.

2. Lodging: A block of rooms has been secured at the Hanover Inn, located on the Dartmouth campus in Hanover, NH.  The rate is $289.00 per night plus taxes and fees.  (see map)

We did check into other options, but this one does not require transportation to the meeting site and is easily accessible by the Dartmouth Coach.  You must book your room at the Hanover Inn by April 21st as our rate and block of rooms are released after that date.  Please call 1-603-643-4300 to reserve a room within the SALT group. Guests wishing to stay elsewhere should use booking.com or other hotel sites and will also need to arrange for transportation to Dartmouth.

 3. Meetings:  The meetings will be held on 22 May and 23 May in the 1930 Room on the ground floor of the Nelson A Rockefeller Center (see map).

 4. Board Dinner:  The Board Dinner will be held on the evening of Wednesday, 22 May at Simon Pearce (https://simonpearce.com/pages/restaurant).  Transportation to and from the restaurant will be provided and will take about 20-25 minutes each way.
